While crystal balls are somewhat hard to come by these days, no one in our area has a better handle on what to expect from our local economy than Dr. Hart Hodges.   Dr. Hodges will be speaking to the Mt. Baker Chapter of SHRM with his outlook on the economy of the Northwest Washington region, particularly as it pertains to:

    • Jobs outlook, for both large and small employers (are we ready to hire yet?)
    • Unemployment projections
    • The effect of the Canadian dollar on retail revenue and the area's tax base
    • Growth expectations in housing, retail, and real estate construction
    • Other issues affecting Human Resources professionals.

Come join with our community of HR professionals as we look ahead to economic issues that affect our work in 2012 and beyond.

About the Presenter:  Hart Hodges is Director of Western's Center for Economic and Business Research.  He received his Ph.D. in Economics in 1994 from the University of Washington.  He taught economics at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, then served as the natural resource damage assessment economist for the U. Department of the Interior.  He joined the faculty of WWU in the Fall of 2000.  Dr. Hodges is currently managing several research projects and public service efforts with an emphasis on economic development.  He received a Deans Research Award in 2009.
