2017 Board Members

    Being a Board member for the Mt. Baker Chapter of SHRM is an opportunity to help your local chapter and forward the HR profession.

    The Board of the Mt. Baker Chapter of SHRM is an all volunteer Board composed of professionals working in the human resources or related field. Some positions require SHRM membership or a certification and all positions have an annual term (January – December).   The Board meets monthly to address chapter issues ranging from budget to programs.

    2017 Board Members

    President - Raquel Hansen

    Raquel Hansen, SPHR
    Director of Human Resources - Samson Rope

    Raquel Hansen is Director of HR  for Samson Rope Technologies in Ferndale, WA and has been an HR professional since 1997.   She has experience working in organizations ranging from 150 employees to 2000 employees. Industries include Hospitality, Health Care, Construction, and Manufacturing.  Raquel has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources and is currently working on a Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership and HR Management.  Raquel is certified as a Senior Professional in HR and returned to the Mt Baker SHRM board in 2013 after serving on the board early in her career.  

    President Elect - Robert Golden

    Director of Human Resources - Barlean’s

    Robert Golden is the Director of Human Resources for Barlean’s in Ferndale, WA.  He has over nine years of varied HR experience working in both union and non-union environments, as well as both the public and private sector in multiple industries. 

    Robert holds a Masters of Business Administration from Western Washington University, in addition to a Bachelors in Business Administration focusing in Human Resource Management.  He is both PHR and SHRM-CP certified.

    Robert has been a member of SHRM since 2007.  This is Robert’s second year serving on the Mt. Baker SHRM Board.

    Past President -  Ronda Hayes

    Ronda Hayes
    Human Resources Director - Wood Stone

    Ronda Hayes is the HR Director at Wood Stone. Previous to Wood Stone, Ronda was the Senior Human Resources Manager at T-Mobile’s Bellingham Call Center for 16 years. Ronda has a Masters of Public Administration from San Jose State University.

    Ronda has been a member of SHRM since 1988, formerly serving on the Silicon Valley SHRM Board. In that capacity, she held the Student Liaison position and successfully brought the San Jose State Chapter into affiliation status with SHRM.

    This is Ronda’s sixth year serving on the Mt. Baker SHRM Board.

    Shannon Jacoby, PHR
    Professional Staffing Manager - Express Employment Professionals

    Shannon Jacoby is currently working for Express Employment Professionals and has been employed there for fourteen years. She oversees the Administrative and Professional Staffing for the Whatcom County Area. During the last fourteen years she has worked with a variety of industries to help with placements, staffing solutions, and HR consulting. Shannon graduated from WWU in 2001 with her BS in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resources. She obtained her PHR in 2003. In 2013, Shannon was selected by our membership as our Member of Year.


    Elaine Haser, SPHR, SHRM-SP
    Human Resources Director - Mt. Baker Imaging/Northwest Radiologists

    Elaine Haser has over 20 years experience in the human resources profession.  Currently she is the HR Director at Mt. Baker Imaging/Northwest Radiologists in Bellingham.  Prior to joining Mt. Baker Imaging/Northwest Radiologists, she had experience as a HR Manager in manufacturing.

    Elaine has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from Western Washington University.  She has been an active member with SHRM since 1995 and has volunteered for a variety of leadership roles during that time. She has served as Treasurer, Secretary, President and Past-President for the Mt. Baker SHRM chapter. 

    Elaine is certified as a Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) through Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) and also certified as a Senior Professional through SHRM.   

    Secretary - Vesna Debussey

    Vesna Debussey                                                                                                                   HR Generalist - Nature's Path Foods 

    Vesna DeBussey is currently employed at Nature's Path Foods as an HR Generalist. Vesna has a Masters in HR from George Brown College (Toronto, Canada) and has a Specialized Honors Degree (BA) in History which she earned at York University (Toronto, Canada).

    Vesna's previous experience was in Recruitment and Managing. She has managed a team of over 30 recruiters and has recruited all across Canada as well as helped over 40 new store openings for a major Canadian retailer (equivalent to Sports Authority). 

    Vesna has been a SHRM member since July 2015. 

    Membership Directors - Elizabeth Miller & Harneet Sihota


    Elizabeth Miller

    Elizabeth Miller has been in Human Resources for the past 16 years, with the majority of her experience in health care.  She has specialized in union contract negotiations and guidance, grievances and arbitrations, safety programs development, strategic recruitment, employment matters counseling, turnover reduction, and policy and procedure development.  

    This is Elizabeth’s fifth year serving on the board; serving as a VP of Membership for 2017.  In her current role she manages the membership functions to successfully achieve an increase in chapter membership. 

    Elizabeth earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 2008, PHR certification in June 2013, and her SHRM-CP in 2015.


    Harneet Sihota
    President/HR Director - Kam-Way Transportation

    Harneet Sihota is President/HR Director of Kam-Way Transportation, Inc.  She, along with her husband and brother-in-law moved from Fresno CA to Blaine WA to start a freight brokerage company in early 2008.  She has served in several capacities within the organization and has chosen Human Resources as the best area for her to contribute to the organization.  She obtained her undergraduate degree in Organizational Leadership from Fresno Pacific University.  She continued her education by obtaining her MBA from University of Phoenix.

    Legislative Director - Edie Hill

    Edie Hill, SHRM-SCP

    Human Resources Manager - The Timken Group

    Edie is the Human Resources Manager for The Timken Group. In that role, she provides support and guidance on issues related to organizational development, policy revisions, and strategic planning, as well as benefits management, employee relations, staff development, and consultation for organizational strategy and growth. 

    Edie holds a B.A in English and a M.A in Communication and Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University with a Masters Certificate in Human Resources Management from Cornell University. She recently passed her SHRM-SCP certification exam.

    Technology Director - Erica Johnson

    Erica Johnson, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

    Erica is the CEO/Founder for Scitus Technology Solutions, LLC. She has over 15 years of experience in all aspects of Human Resource and Business Management.  Previously, Erica was employed as the Corporate Director of Human Resources for Skagit Valley Casino Resort.  Prior to joining Skagit Valley Casino Resort, Erica was the Director of Human Resources for Ryzex (currently Peak-Ryzex), overseeing HR for all North American and European operations and prior to that she was the Human Resources Manager for Semiahmoo Resort, which is where she began her career in HR.

    Erica is a Bellingham native and graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in Business Administration, and a concentration in Human Resource Management.  Erica earned her certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) in 2002 and her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) in May 2013, and SHRM-SCP in 2015.

    Certification Director - Rhonda Purdy

    Vice President of Human Resources - North Coast Credit Union

    Rhonda Purdy is the Vice President of Human Resources for North Coast Credit Union. She has been in Management and Human Resources for the better part of the last 18 years.  Her Human Resources experience includes Training & Development, Recruiting, Payroll & Benefits Administration, Human Resource Information Systems & Analytics, Compensation, and Employee & Labor Relations. 

    In addition, Rhonda earned her national HRCI certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) in 2006 and her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) in 2012.  In 2015 Rhonda also became certified under the Society for Human Resource Management with the SHRM-SCP designation.

    Rhonda is also a veteran; after serving four years in the Navy, she and her family settled down as residents in the Whatcom County community in 1997.  Outside of work, Rhonda enjoys reading, running, kayaking and spending time with her husband and two children.

    SHRM Foundation Director - Lori Nettles

    HR Assistant - NW Gastroenterology

    Lori Nettles is currently working at NW Gastroenterology in Human Resources. She has worked in Human Resources for 16 years. She has been a member of SHRM since 2007 and this is her sixth year on the board. She will be serving as Foundation Director.

    Lori is a Whatcom County Native and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her husband. She is an avid Rock Hound and enjoys making things from the rocks that they find. She spends a lot of her time volunteering with many different organizations and enjoys the benefits that she can provide.

    Lori was also the 2014 Member of the Year.
